1. What is
HomePNA?
The Home Phoneline Networking Alliance is an association of industry-leading
companies working together to ensure adoption of a single, unified
phoneline networking standard and rapidly bring to market a range
of interoperable home networking solutions.
Currently there are more than 15 million homes with multiple PCs
per a Dataquest estimate. With homenetworking, their households
receive the benefits of simultaneous, shared internet access, printer/peripheral
sharing, file and application sharing, and networked gaming. In
addition, consumers can enjoy the use of each of these home entertainment
and information services using existing wiring in the home.
2. What do
I need to set up my HomePNA network?
You can set up your HomePNA network by using the existing in-home
phone wiring in your house.
3. What is
the difference between a phone line setup and a CAT5 setup?
A home phoneline network uses your existing in-home phone wiring
to connect your computers, simply by plugging into the telephone
jack from the adapter. An Ethernet network uses standard Category
5 cable and Ethernet hub to connect your computers.
4. How does
home phoneline networking work? Will it require any special equipment?
"No New Wires" is the concept of HomePNA networking technologies
that are simple to install with direct connection of PCs to the
in-home telephone jack.
5. Is 1 Mbps
fast enough for home network applications?
1 Mbps is more than sufficient for today's home networking applications.
However 10-Mbps will be available in the near future.
